Because Germany was banned from taking part in international events after World War II, the German GP only became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1951. It has been organized by AvD (Automobile Club of Germany) since 1926. The well-known ADAC hosts many other races, one of which has been the second F1 race in Germany at the Nürburgring, held there since 1995.

In 2006 it was reported that from 2007 until 2010, the German Grand Prix would be shared between the Nürburgring (former home of the European Grand Prix) and the Hockenheimring. The former would hold the races in 2007 and 2009 and the latter in 2008 and 2010. However, the name for the 2007 Grand Prix was later changed. While it was originally intended to be the German Grand Prix[1], the Nürburgring currently lists the 2007 event as "Großer Preis von Europa" (European Grand Prix).

The 2010 GP, to be held in Hockenheim, is in jeopardy as the track owners, the city and the state of Baden-Württemberg, are not willing anymore to lose money due to the high licensing costs imposed by F1 management. In addition, talks with Bernie Ecclestone were hampered by his Hitler quotes.

The inaugural Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was a huge success and was enjoyed by countless millions of people the world over watching on TV. Importantly the race was also a big success within the world of Formula 1 with everyone experiencing the friendliness and hospitality of the Bahraini people. For one weekend, Bahrain became the focal point of the sporting world and as a result the race and the interest that it created demonstrated clearly to people and international businesses that Bahrain is “open for business”. In 2004 the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was recognized for its organizational capabilities with the award of the FIA Race Promoters’ Trophy. This award was made at the FIA Gala Awards in Monte Carlo and was given to Bahrain for the organization of the best Grand Prix in 2004.

After the long winters, Montreal wakens to a series of festivals and the Canadian Grand Prix, the night life starts, and ends in the early hours of the morning, with music, wine, and excellent food in its wide choice of restaurants. The cosmopolitan tradition of Montreal welcomes visitors from around the world. The F1 tradition, and an important native son, Gilles Villeneuve, after whom the track was named are very important to the city. The track is complex, with slow and fast corners, making very strong demands on the engines and other systems of the F1 cars, and all this on a man-made island made in 1967 in the middle of the St Lawrence River on the occasion of Expo ’67.
