Sanitas Per Aquam

Whether you know it as thermal baths, Turkish baths, Norwegian baths or Finnish saunas, the use of water as a way to relax and as a source of physical and mental well-being is an ancient practice that dates back thousands of years. This European tradition is best known today as hydrotherapy. The term spa comes from the phrase Sanitas Per Aquam, or health through water, and defines our commitment to each and every visitor to Scandinave Les Bains Vieux-Montréal.

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is the use of water to revitalize, and restore health by its recuperative and healing properties based on its thermal effects. It exploits the body’s reaction to hot and cold stimuli.

Water gets rid of stress and rejuvenates our body. It affects the skin and muscles and it calms the organs.

Urban Spa

Scandinave Les Bains Vieux-Montréal is a spa on Montreal Island where people can enjoy the age-old experience of the Baths, a method of relaxation and a source of physical and spiritual well being that is among the oldest European traditions. It is a veritable Eden in an urban setting, providing visitors with a multi-sensorial experience from baths, massages and relaxation, all in an environment of natural elements and materials such as water, daylight, wood and stone.

Eco Spa

We believe sustainability is essential to the nature spa experience. We provide reusable bags and stainless steel water bottles rather than plastic, our staff uniforms are made from sustainable fibers, our ‘green’ roof ensures efficient heating, cooling and insulation, and we use only water-saving appliances and irrigation systems. These are just some of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to the continued enjoyment of our beautiful natural surroundings.

Water Quality

Every Scandinave Spa location uses a state-of-the-art computerized system that verifies the physio-chemical composition of the baths (including pH and chlorine levels) and adjusts them continuously, 24 hours a day. Our technical teams then double-check these data four to six times a day – twice as often as the law requires. Control records are available to our clients at the reception desk, and our experts are there to answer all your questions.

After the long winters, Montreal wakens to a series of festivals and the Canadian Grand Prix, the night life starts, and ends in the early hours of the morning, with music, wine, and excellent food in its wide choice of restaurants. The cosmopolitan tradition of Montreal welcomes visitors from around the world. The F1 tradition, and an important native son, Gilles Villeneuve, after whom the track was named are very important to the city. The track is complex, with slow and fast corners, making very strong demands on the engines and other systems of the F1 cars, and all this on a man-made island made in 1967 in the middle of the St Lawrence River on the occasion of Expo ’67.
